Our story

Woven warmth, made slowly

Chunky merino is knitted not with needles but with the maker's own arms — the thick, soft yarn is looped arm over arm into a generous, cloud-soft throw. It is a slow, hand-made craft, and the result is a piece that belongs on a sofa: deep, warm and inviting, the heart of a hygge corner. Khutro works with Ukrainian makers who knit each throw this way, so every one is soft, sturdy and made by hand.

How it's made

Thick merino wool is knitted by hand using the maker's arms in place of needles, which gives the throw its loose, cloud-soft stitch. It is then lightly finished so it holds its shape while staying soft and warm.

How to use it

Drape it over a sofa or armchair for the hygge centrepiece, or use it as a warm layer on cool evenings. Hand-wash gently in cool water and dry flat, and it will keep its softness for years.

Good to know

Is it hand-made?

Yes — every throw is arm-knitted by hand by a Ukrainian maker. No two are quite identical, which is part of what makes them special.

What is it made from?

Pure merino wool, a soft and hard-wearing fibre prized for comfort. The thick yarn is what gives the throw its chunky, cloud-like feel.

Will it shed or pill?

Merino is a smooth, fine wool that sheds little. It is finished carefully at the workshop, and gentle care keeps it soft and smooth for years.

How do I care for it?

Hand-wash gently in cool water with a wool-safe soap and dry flat out of direct sun. Chunky knits hold their shape best when dried flat.

Is it warm?

Very — chunky merino wool is thick and soft, and traps warmth beautifully. It is the cosy, warm layer at the heart of a hygge corner.

What does arm-knitted mean?

Instead of needles, the maker uses their own arms to loop the thick merino yarn into the throw. It is a slow, hand-made process that gives the throw its loose, cloud-soft stitch.
